Here are some of the warning signs* indicating a chemical dependency problem:
Personal:
- Deteriorating personal hygiene
- Multiple complaints about physical ailments
- Accidents
- Acute changes in behavior or personality
- Multiple prescription medications for self and/or family
- Emotional crises
Home and Family:
- Drinking or drug usage becomes a priority
- Arguments and violent outbursts
- Sexual problems
- Extramarital affairs
- Withdrawal from family life
- Neglect of children, spouse or family obligations
- Abnormal, illegal or anti-social behavior from children
- Separation or Divorce
- Absence from the home
- Behavior excused by family or friends
- A noticeable decline in physical health
- Weight changes
- Bloating, flushed face, pupils that are dilated or constricted
- Emergency room treatments for migraine, unexplained injuries, overdose, or other symptomatic problems
- Shakiness and tremors in hands
- Unsteady gait
- Runny nose
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
